Mexico remains in first place for attempted cyber-attacks in Latin America, with 187,000 million attempts last year1. This is why the initiative of the Federal Cybersecurity Law was promoted. This law initiative seeks to guarantee national defense through the protection of the digital space, create a legal framework to typify and punish cyber-attacks, implement cybersecurity policies and procedures, and conduct security tests to identify and subsequently mitigate vulnerabilities.
The law establishes the creation of a National Cybersecurity Agency, whose principal functions will be to coordinate the development, implementation, evaluation and improvement of the National Cybersecurity Strategy; generate a Registry of Public and Private Cyber Incident Response Centers; design technical criteria for the detection, monitoring, prognosis and measurement of risks in information technologies; promote mechanisms for the prevention, attention and response to cyberattacks, among many others.
Similarly, the most important functions of the National Cybersecurity Strategy are to promote mechanisms to prevent and combat cybercrime, as well as actions for the prevention of risks, threats, and vulnerabilities of both public and private IT systems, etc.
